9th Grade Leadership

Freshman Class Leadership at Berkeley High School is a ten-week program that allows ninth grade students an opportunity to further develop their leadership skills and learn about how things operate at Berkeley High. Freshman Leaders will learn about their level of leadership, taking initiative, delegation, developing a mission, marketing, event planning, setting priorities, gathering feedback, celebrating and recognizing others, as well as about their core values. The Freshman Class Leadership team will create at least one event and one fundraiser during the fall and winter portions of the school year. This session will include 12-20  team members from any of the small learning communities at BHS (AC, AHA, AMPS, BIHS, CAS, ISP, NEWCOMER). This is a good program for students who have yet to get involved in school leadership and also for those students who have been participating for many years in middle school. Our objective is to create a strong set of skills during this first year at BHS so that this team can effect positive change for their entire high school career and beyond.

Class of 2027 Leadership Positions due by midnight of September 13, 2023

This form will be updated and opened in August 2023 for all interested students who would like to join the Class of 2027 student leadership team.

Please contact Mr. V if you need assistance completing your application.

Hello Class of 2027,

Represent your hive! Even if you have not thought of yourself as a leader, you should consider adding your name to the 9th Grade Leadership Lottery. Instead of an election or interview, ASB Leadership will be conducting a lottery to select one representative from each Hive and an additional five students from any hive. We will also select five alternates.

Each one of you has the appropriate experience, requisite knowledge and the passion to work on projects that serve your classmates and Berkeley High. We are excited that this model of building a team will bring forward new voices and a new energy to the ASB Leadership team.

During the fall semester as a team, you will work on a team fundraiser, decide on an activity where you will spend those funds, and collaborate on a 9th grade community campaign. You will get experience speaking up, reaching out to new people, creating effective promotional campaigns, and making decisions in a team setting. If you enjoy this experience, then you can decide to run for an elected position by February 22nd or interview for an appointed position later in the spring. Along with the memories and new skills, you would receive 5 elective credits.
