Right now, leadership is on an upward trend. It seems as though every year we are becoming more and more effective at creating fun spirited events, and making the school community more unified and inclusive. However, my biggest hope for ASB leadership in the future is that it is able to be more representative of the diversity of opinions at Berkeley high. If we have too homogenous of a leadership team we are never truly going to be able to represent the needs and perspectives of the whole school community. Not only will having broader perspectives on leadership help to make it more authentic to the school community, but it will also help to make our leadership teams more innovative and capable of finding new and diverse solutions to common problems. Many students who normally wouldn’t feel comfortable joining leadership would be the ones that could be the most valuable to our school community as a whole. The students that aren’t considered your traditional ‘leaders’ could be able to understand a dilemma through an innovative lens. So if you are a student who is interested in joining leadership and feel like you would offer a fresh and unique perspective I highly encourage you to. On the other hand, I think the current leadership team has to be responsible in taking initiative to make leadership feel as welcoming as possible and encourage a wide variety of people to join leadership.
