INFORMATION NEEDED TO COMPLETE CLEARANCE:
Clearance paperwork takes about 20 minutes to complete. Have your Student ID number and health insurance information ready, including policy number, and a copy of your license and auto insurance (if you intend to help carpool), and take a picture of and scan your physical in order to upload it into Home Campus (please make sure the physician signs, dates, and stamps it)

Q: I’ve done the Home Campus clearance but it still says pending
A: We’re working on it!!! Grades were just submitted. We’ll be clearing right up to noon on the day of tryouts!
Q: My physical expires during the season
A: Please get a new before Nov 4
Q: My physical expires during the season but my insurance won’t let me get a new one until it’s been a year since the last one
A: Your doctor’s office may complete the form without requiring a physical exam, send it to them and ask. Otherwise, we recommend going to a local clinic, click here for some options. Some charge as little as $25. You can go to your family physician through your insurance over the summer to reset the 1 year clock to a more convenient time in the year. Here is a downloadable copy of our physical form.
Q: Do we HAVE TO upload the BHS physical form?
A: No. Any “pre-participation physical” form will suffice. Whatever form/format you use, PLEASE make sure the physician DATES, SIGNS, and STAMPS the form and clearly notes that your student athlete is “cleared to participate with no restrictions” (or some similar line).
Q: What happens if I’m not cleared by the first day?
A: You cannot practice/participate. Many teams have competitive tryouts and this can impact your chances of making the team. Contact coaches ASAP if you have extenuating circumstances
Q: I play a fall sport that still has practices and games during the week of 11/4. What should I do?
A: Contact the coach of the winter team you wish to play for to arrange a make-up tryout. It is not safe (or fair) for you to do two rigorous practices in one day. You are entitled to a make-up tryout but you must communicate with the coach ahead of time.
Q: What should I do if I have an unavoidable scheduling conflict with a tryout day(s)? (other than being a fall athlete)
A: Please contact coaches immediately to discuss make-up options if you have scheduling conflicts. There is no guarantee that coaches can accommodate you.
Q: I don’t remember seeing an email about my clearance status. How can I check if I’m ‘In Progress’ (incomplete), ‘Pending’ (everything done and waiting for ADs to check grades), ‘Denied’ (something is wrong with my physical), ‘Practice Only’ (uncleared transfer or grades issue), or ‘Cleared’?
A: Go to https://www.homecampus.com/login
1) Log in using the email and password you set
2) This will take you to the “My Student/Athlete Clearances” page.
3) You should see existing registrations under “My Student/Athlete Clearances” – if not, change the year to 2024-2025 and hit search.
Note: check your spam folder if you’ve never received an email from HOME CAMPUS
Note: the steps described above will also help you identify if you have duplicate registrations that can be deleted.
Q: I registered before I had my physical ready. I now have it. How do I upload it?
A: To upload your physical, take a picture or scan of it and then,
1) Go to https://www.homecampus.com/login
2) Log in using the email and password you set
3) This will take you to the “My Student/Athlete Clearances” page.
4) Click on the “Files” Icon of your 2024-2025 clearance
5) Upload your physical here and then hit “save and continue”
Q: I want to play a spring sport. What should I do?
A: You should also be selecting those sports when you submit your clearance on HOME CAMPUS. We will clear athletes for those sports after semester 1 grades post in January. Spring sports begin on February 10th
Q: How can I support BHS Athletics?
A: Amazing question! There are several ways:
1) Volunteer for team jobs – coaches will have preseason meetings and be soliciting help for tasks ranging from team parent, to drivers, to snack coordinators, to uniform coordinators, to scoreboard operators, etc.
2) Donate to the Berkeley Athletic Fund! You will have an opportunity to donate during the clearance process. BAF helps support coaching stipends and funds capital projects, team travel, uniforms and equipment.
3) Come to a BAF meeting or, even better, become a BAF team rep. BAF meets once a month. CONTACT BAF for more info
4) Be exemplary student-athlete parents/guardians/fans that cheer respectfully for both sides, model respect for the rules, officials, and coaches, and help our student-athletes be the best they can be.

MENTAL HEALTH PEER EDUCATOR PROGRAM & TOBACCO USE PREVENTION EDUCATION PROGRAM
Hello from the Wellness Center and Ms. Kitzya, the Wellness Counselor.
The Mental Health Peer Educator Program has began meeting and will begin being present across campus and school media. We are excited to open up our Mental Health Peer Educator (MHPE) Program application and Tobacco Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Program application. If you are interested in gaining new skills and knowledge please review the two flyers for each program with a QR Code and link to apply. We will also have flyers posted around school and applications in the Wellness Center that you can access every Wednesday during lunch time.
Cutoff to complete the MENTAL HEALTH PEER EDUCATOR application will be November 8.
Cutoff to complete the TOBACCO USE PREVENTION EDUCATION application will be November 8.
If you are selected for the MHPE Program, you will be selected for an interview with one of our current Peer Educators. If you are selected for TUPE Program, you will meet with Ms. Kitzya the Wellness Counselor and TUPE Coordinator, for a brief interview.
These programs are available to 10th and 11th graders.
We can’t wait to meet you all who are interested and to continue spreading awareness of mental health and substance use support.

Notification of Non-Discrimination Policy
The Berkeley Unified School District is committed to providing a hostile-free working and learning environment. The District prohibits discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, and retaliation, based on actual or perceived race, ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity/expression, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding/lactation status (related medical conditions), religion, color, national origin (including language restrictions and possession of a driver’s license (issued under Vehicle Code), ancestry, immigration status, physical or mental disability (including clinical depression and bipolar disorder, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, epilepsy, seizure disorder, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, and heart attack), medical condition (cancer-related and genetic characteristics), military and veteran status, marital status, registered domestic partner status, age (40 and above), genetic information, political belief or affiliation (unless union related), a person’s association with a person or group with one or more of these actual or perceived characteristics, or any other basis protected by federal, state or local law, ordinance, or regulation in any program or activity it conducts or to which it provides significant assistance.
Discrimination is different treatment based on a protected characteristic in the context of an educational program, work or activity without a legitimate, nondiscriminatory reason that interferes with or limits the individual’s ability to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or privileges provided by the District or includes an adverse employment action.
Hostile environment harassment occurs when a target is subjected to unwelcome conduct based on a protected characteristic, which is both subjectively offensive to the target and would be offensive to a reasonable person of similar circumstances/characteristics and is sufficiently so severe, and so pervasive to interfere with or limit an individual’s ability to effectively work or to participate in or benefit from the services, activities, or opportunities offered by the District. Harassment may take many forms, including but not limited to, verbal remarks and name-calling, graphic and written statements, or any conduct that may be threatening or humiliating. Harassment based on any of the above protected categories is a form of unlawful discrimination and will not be tolerated by the District and can result in disciplinary action against the offending student or employee.
Upon witnessing an act of discrimination, harassment, bullying, intimidation, and retaliation, based on actual or perceived protected characteristics, school personnel are required to take immediate steps to intervene when it is safe to do so. Once a school/office has expressed notice or reason to know of such conduct, whether carried out by employees, students, or third parties, it should take immediate and appropriate steps to investigate, determine what occurred, take prompt and effective steps reasonably calculated to end the conduct, eliminate a hostile environment, if one has been created and prevent the conduct from occurring again. These steps should be taken regardless of whether an individual makes a complaint or asks the school/office to take action. Complaints are protected from retaliation. The District prohibits retaliation against any person who files a complaint or an appeal, reports instances of noncompliance, discrimination, harassment, bullying, and intimidation, or who participates in the complaint-filing or investigation process. This nondiscriminatory policy applies to all acts related to school activity or school attendance within any school/office under the jurisdiction of the Berkeley Unified School District.
