Students (and staff!) can now place books on hold from the BHS catalog and come pick them up at the BHS Supply Center at the Kittredge Breezeway along Milvia. A library team member will be at the Supply Center on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 1:30 – 3:30pm to Students are also encouraged to return overdue textbooks and library books from last year during this time. Latinx Heritage MonthThe amazing BHS Library Team also reminds us that “beginning on September 15th (the Independence Day for several Central American nations) through October 15th, Latinx Heritage Month is a chance for us to celebrate the cultures, contributions, and resilience of Latinx communities.” We honor you students and staff who represent Mexico in North America; Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama in Central America; Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, French Guiana, Paraguay, Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay in South America; Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Puerto Rico. Here is an opportunity from the Jacket to honor and acknowledge the full range of experiences from this multidimensional community . The Jacket Newspaper is currently accepting submissions for its Chicanx Latinx Heritage Month issue. All contributors should submit to Jacket by October 8th at eliotmark@students.berkeley.net! Submissions may be of any form, including photos, visual art, poetry, audios, etc. We are looking to uplift the voices of our Chicanx Latinx students at Berkeley High through stories and artwork. Youth and Government and BHS Stop Harassing are hosting a forum specifically for students to ask questions and learn about the school board candidates on the November ballot. There will be a Q&A period as well as a section led by BHS Stop Harassing about sexual harm and Title IX. This is a really great opportunity to get informed about the people who are making the decisions for our district! The forum will be on October 1st starting at 7 pm! UC Berkeley Offers Growth & Mentorship to BHS Students UC Berkeley is continuing their weekly panel series (via Zoom) exclusively to BHS on September 30th at 4pm about poverty and inequality. Presenters will speak about their personal interest on these issues and how they are grappling with them in their work on the following topics throughout the series.
