Thank you!!!!! Freshmen who enroll will be put in pairs or groups with other students in their Hive and partnered with upperclassmen mentors who can answer questions, offer advice, or just be people to talk to in a less structured environment. It will be low impact and low commitment (once a week at lunch, then it would taper off over time). UC Berkeley Offers Growth & Mentorship to BHS Students  We are living through rapid, multidimensional change. We are talking about climate change, increasing global inequality, the fate of our democracy, Black Lives Matter, free higher education, universal health care, gender disparities, and to top it off, we are living through a global pandemic. Who is at the nexus of it all? YOU. Young people are taking on these challenges and spearheading movements around the world. Members of UC Berkeley would like to help. UC Berkeley is piloting a weekly panel series (via Zoom) exclusively to Berkeley High, starting on September 23rd. The panels will feature presentations from graduate students, faculty, and researchers on current social issues: the environment, poverty, democracy, race, education, health, gender, and the covid recession. Presenters will speak about their personal interest on these issues and how they are grappling with them in their work. Then they’ll answer your questions, and hear your thoughts. And they’d like to help you forge your own path! Will you be 16 by the November elections? Do you want to find a way to make sure every vote gets counted? Apply to be a poll worker! Even though California will be mainly voting by mail in November, some polling stations are required to stay open. If there aren’t enough people to work the polls, some will be forced to close. If this happens, it will be much more difficult for people who are relying on in-person voting. They would potentially have to rush to a polling station far away- and if they can’t make it in time, their vote may never be counted. With many older people who usually serve as poll workers are choosing to stay home this year due to COVID-19, there is a shortage of poll workers. This election, we need to show up. If we can’t vote, we need to make sure that those who are able to vote do. How good are you at creating Tik Tok videos? Do you have art or music skills? Are you looking for something to do that will break up the monotony and give you something to get juiced about? HERO might be the peer group for you. If you or someone you know has been harmed by drugs, if you’re interested in learning and teaching factual information to keep drug users safe, or you believe that education and support is preferable to stigma and punishment, then HERO might be your cup of tea. We need people of all backgrounds and viewpoints because drugs affect all of us in different ways. You can be as involved as deeply as you want, from class presentations, to making art, to brainstorming ideas to reach the masses. The point is to make this yours, make it relevant, and make it fun. The Alameda County Registrar of Voters (ROV) is preparing to appoint Student Election Workers to serve on the November 3, 2020, General Election.  Dear Alameda County High School Administrators, Students & Teachers, We are following mandates from County and State COVID-19 requirements. Personal Protective Equipment will be provided during training and voting dates.Student Election Workers are in great demand as they are needed for their knowledgeable skills in laptops, printers, and tablets. HS Election Worker Application Your leadership in promoting participation on your campus is truly appreciated.Students can earn up to $475 for serving. If you have friends or family that are looking to earn extra money and community service experience, please pass on this high school application to them.If you are no longer a student in high school, you are still strongly encouraged to participate as your experience and tech-savviness will help as we introduce our new electronic voting system to our voters.The Student Poll Worker Program is truly a “Civics in Action” exercise. High school students must meet the following criteria to participate: Be age 16 or older on or before Saturday, October 31, 2020.
