Term 4 with periods 0 , 2, 4, and 6 starts on Monday, November 16th.

Term 4 Small Group Support

Please be aware that Small Group Support sessions WILL run during the 1st Wednesday of Term 4 on November 18th.

Term 4 Student Materials

Please keep in mind that if your Term 4 teachers have materials that they would like for you to pick up for classes, you can do so at BHS Supply Center at the intersection of  Milvia St and Kittredge St. We will be open every Tuesday from 1:30-3:30pm during Term 4. Additionally, we will also be open the 1st Thursday of Term 4 on November 19th. Only go to BHS Supply Center if your teacher instructs you to pick up materials.

Join a Lecture on Nuclear Physics & Particle Accelerators November 18

Next Wednesday on November 18 from 2:40-3:40 p.m. there is going to be a lecture about nuclear physics and particle accelerators by Peggy Norris. She has worked at the Berkeley Lab for 20 years and now works at a facility that is trying to detect dark matter! Come join us to learn more about what crashing atoms together close to the speed of light can tell us about the universe.

Choir Concert & Fundraiser November 17

On November 17th at 7:00 P.M (NEW DATE), ASB leadership will be hosting a virtual concert with the Pacific BoyChoir Academy as a fundraiser for the Berkeley Sexual Harm Survivors Support Group. This Support Group is an organization that dedicates itself to supporting survivors through hosting free sessions facilitated by a trained therapist to survivors of sexual harm. Due to the session being free the group requires funds to help pay for the therapist’s facilitation.

The PBA is a 2x Grammy award winning choir group that has toured different parts of the world giving performances to the likes of Joe Montana, Chabad Telethon, and Zach Galifianakis. The concert will feature music from Kanye West, The Beatles, Oasis, The Weekend, and many more artists and genres. 

The tickets to the virtual concert can be purchased here for $10 each with all proceeds going to the group. Please come out and lend your support for the Berkeley Sexual Harm Support Group. We hope to see you there, get tickets now! If you have any questions please contact Zephyr

BHS Athletics Tryouts begin December 7th

Register for the American Math Competition 10/12 

If you want to take the American Math Competition 10/12 this year, please sign up here. The AMC is a multiple choice math competition that is 75 minutes long, with 25 questions. Depending on which version we’re taking, the test will be administered either on February 4th, 2021, or February 10th, 2021. With all the uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, it’s unclear if the test will be online or in-person.

Join Focus Group on Tobacco Prevention

 
I hope this finds you doing as well as you can be considering all that is going on. My name is Tino Ratliff, I work for the City of Berkeley Public Health Division and will be one of the facilitators for a focus group that we hope you will participate in. All participants will earn a $15 gift card as a thank you. More information is below. What?Focus group: Is a small set of six to 12 people who usually share common characteristics such as age, background, geography, etc. The group comes together to discuss a predetermined topic. In a guided or open discussion. The main purpose of our focus group is to draw upon respondents’ attitudes, feelings, beliefs, experiences and reactions about the given topic. This can inform how the larger population will react to the same topic. We are holding a Youth Focus Group about flavored tobacco products and would love to get your feedback.When?To be announced. (Will occur on a date between Friday 11/06 – Friday 11/13, 3:30 – 5:00 pm.) Who can participate?We are looking to have 6-12 youth participants (ages 13-20) that spend time in Berkeley: live, work, hangout, worship, shop, etc. Why?Your input will help inform us with how best to share health and educational materials with our Berkeley Community.As a small thank you (up to 12) participants will receive a $15 Target gift card.Next steps: we need your parent/guardian to read and fill out the online parental consent form or fill out the attached pdf. (For pdf. print, have your parent review, sign, scan/take a picture of the signed form with your camera phone and send a copy to Tino) More details for the focus group are explained in the consent. Then the youth participant should fill out this link to the doodle form so that we can schedule the best date and time. Join Edupod 

Edupod is a non-profit organization that raises awareness about medical disorders through podcasts, fundraisers, campaigns, articles, and community outreach. One disease is chosen and set to be worked on for about 3-4 months. 

The Berkeley chapter is a branch of this organization. There are 3 open leadership positions right now. Article Manager (secretary), Fundraising Manager (treasurer), and Public Relations Manager (PR). The Funding Manager will be setting up fundraisers and keeping a tab on accounting. Article Manager will be in charge of the article team. PR Manager will be working on outreach and other projects. If you are interested please fill out the form attached. If you have any questions, let us know. The interest form is non-committal, so if you decide later that you are no longer interested, that is no problem. Thanks!

AP & IB Test Registration Deadline

The deadline for registering and ordering AP and IB exams is Friday, November 6th at 11:59PM.

Seeeniooors!!!

‘21 we have a  class update for you….If you have not seen the message from BHS Yearbook about senior portraits, they are now accepting your photos until November 30. Seniors will need to follow specific guidelines when taking the photos, as outlined in their message. This year, you can choose your own photographer.

If you do not submit a senior portrait, we will use your junior year photo instead. If you do not have access to the Internet or a phone/camera, dm on Instagram @berkeleyearbook or email bhsyearbook@berkeley.net and we can figure something out. Submit photos on eShare.

If you would like to take and submit a senior portrait in your Class of 2021 cap, gown and tassel, then order soon! Achievers is accepting orders online, over the phone or by mail. Orders will begin shipping on October 26th. After this date, they will ship your order directly to your home as soon as it is placed. 

GRADUATION ORDERS

Achievers is now taking orders for all your graduation needs from cap & gowns to announcements, rings, and other grad swag. Achievers offers packages for grad items or just the cap & gown by itself. All Senior families should receive emails and maybe a catalog in the mail with more info on how to place their graduation orders.  Senior families can submit their order in one of (3) ways: online, over the phone, or by mail.

RWC strives to:

  • Improve students’ writing skills (phrasing, grammar, clarity, etc.)
  • Assist with reviewing rubrics and planning assignment outlines
  • Provide constructive feedback on individual assignments
