SPEAKER SERIES begins 10/27 with Labels by CLUV

The Speaker Series begins with Labels hosted by CLUV on October 27 during 4th and 5th period.

Classes are invited to a special presentation in the Little Theater on October 27. In collaboration with ASB Leadership, Chicano Latino United Voices (CLUV) presents Labels. Through theatre, dance, and discussion CLUV explores the Latino identity and interrogates conventional ethnic labels and racial categories. Speakers will discuss topics such as immigration, labor rights, culture, and personal experience.

This is the first presentation in what is to be a series of speaker events, each created by a different BHS club or student group to educate their peers on a social justice topic of choice with the help of local community members. The idea for the series is to emphasize important societal topics that may not be fully addressed or emphasized by current school curricula. We hope that you can plan one or all of these themes into your lessons and consider them a sort of student curriculum addendum.

We hope to host a presentation every month from October to May. The lineup thus far is CLUV (October), BHS Stop Harassing (November), Black Student Union (December), Muslim Student Association (January), Fair Trade (February), Amnesty International (March), and GSA (April).
