AC Governance

AC’s governance and decision-making structure is dictated by our bylaws.

Administrative Vice Principal

The Academic Choice Program is supervised and administered by Vice Principal Felicia Phillips.

Academic Choice Teacher Coordinator 

AC has two Lead Teachers who are responsible for coordinating the requirements and concerns of program teachers with the ACAC and the BHS administration.  The 2016/2017 Lead Teachers are Amanda Marini and Amina Sheikh.

Academic Choice Advisory Council (ACAC)

The Academic Choice Advisory Council (ACAC) is responsible for evaluating and supporting the AC program. Examples of activities the ACAC undertakes:

  • In collaboration with teachers, set curriculum goals and standards commensurate with those set by State, National, and International Standards and in agreement with UC admission requirements.
  • Determine methods of assessing the goals and standards of Academic Choice.
  • Help to provide tutorial support for students.
  • Coordinate curriculum among departments.
  • Give feedback to the BHS administration for teacher evaluations along criteria of professionalism determined by the standards of their profession and the program expectations.

The ACAC is composed of 5 teachers, 5 students, and 5 parents. The ACAC meets monthly and all members of the AC community are welcome to attend. If you are interested in raising a point of discussion, please email Ms. Felicia Phillips, AC Vice Principal

AC Meetings

The Academic Choice program holds two general parent meetings each year, one in the fall and one in the spring. The purpose of the general meetings are to inform parents and guardians of our existing academic programs and priorities for new programs, to elect members of the AC Advisory Council, and to solicit feedback from the AC community and answer questions.

ACAC Meetings

The AC Advisory Council (ACAC) meets once a month while school is in session.  For the 2015/2016 school year these meetings will normally take place the first Friday of the month at 7:30 a.m. in BHS Building D, Conference Room B.  This schedule is subject to change and each meeting will be announced on the e-tree.
